The New .JP domains

The New .JP domains:

The Japanese domain market has been completely deregulated.
Now anyone can purchase a .jp domain name.
  1. Obtaining a Japanese domain is now a simple task. jp domain names are now just like popular com/net/org registrations.
  2. You can begin using your domain immediately. NO need to host on Japanese servers. You can host this domain anywhere in the world, or host with us if you like.

Advantages of the .jp domain:
  1. It is easily recognized and trusted by the Japanese consumer
  2. It can be registered and used in English or Japanese (Hiragana, Katakana, Kanji)
  3. It is easy to obtain; there are NO restrictions on registering or using these names
  4. There is NO limit to the number of registrations possible by one entity (companies can now create online identities for all of their products and business units)
  5. With Japan Registry, there is NO need to host on Japanese servers. You can host this domain anywhere in the world, making it easy to approach the Japanese market from overseas

Here's the process:
  1. Search for the domain of your choice
  2. If available, press purchase
  3. Fill in the application form and billing information
  4. Submit. Wait for your confirmation page
  5. Your password to manage your domain will be emailed to you immediately after you purchase your domain. Use this to update information for your domain

Traditional .CO.JP Domain Names

.co.jp domain names retain their restrictive elements, but they are still the primary identity for Japanese companies

Restrictions associated with .co.jp domains:
  1. Registrants MUST be a
    • a. Japanese company (OR)
    • b. Foreign company with a registered branch (or other valid Japanese business license)
  2. Only one domain name is available per independent Japanese organization

Here is the process:

Companies that currently have a registered company, branch, or business license in Japan
  1. Select the domain name you would like to purchase
  2. Press "next"
  3. Fill out the appropriate form and press "Submit". Your domain registration will take approximately 14 days to process. When complete, you will own your domain.

Companies that currently DO NOT have a registered company, branch, or business license in Japan
  1. Obtain a Japanese business license. There are three types of licenses that will give you full ability to obtain your domain name and do business in Japan, but branch registration is the fastest and most efficient way to get started in Japan:
  2. Once your business license is obtained, you can apply for your co.jp domain name. (Follow the process outlined above)

*4 Registry Retrieval applications must be received by close of business on the 5th day after a domain has been suspended to avoid a surcharge.
